More About Me
WHO I AM
I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. I am learning to love and be loved more and more each day in a wonderful community of friends and family.
I am a US Army Combat Veteran. I am a Black Male. I have and continue to work to bring healing and wholeness to these communities.
I am a human with all the flaws, struggles, triumphs and tragedies that comes with it. I aspire to treat all my fellow humans as I desire to be treated.
I view people and problems at the convergence of Attachment (our biological need for secure connection with others) and the difficult human experiences that disconnect us from a sense of wholeness within ourselves, in our relationships, and with our world. My approach to therapy is dynamic and integrative. I fuse cutting edge research on the science of connection with a therapeutic style that is experiential, resilience building, and centered on the whole-person. Some of the modalities I routinely use and have advanced level training in include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), The Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT, CPT, DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy, among others.
MY THERAPETIC LENS
Working With Me
What I often hear from my clients is that working with me was more rewarding and fulfilling than they imagined therapy would be. I think this has a lot to do with the environment of safety I aim to create for each person and couple I work with. I demonstrate that each person is cared for and can trust that I am fully present with them and for them in empathy, understanding, and compassion. I also show that I have the competence and expertise to actually help them achieve the changes they desire. With safety, comes the freedom to explore. So, when they are ready, I also push them to practice new things, because I believe they can. When they do, I not only celebrate their successes, but also their willingness to try. People who work with me know that their unique journeys and stories are being honored; that their own forgotten strengths are being reclaimed, rediscovered, and renewed to meet today's challenges; and that they can have hope for the capacity to sustain their progress with endurance through the many seasons of life.
